Edit: I forgot to add in a yellow ting to the colours seeing as she is in the light of a flame and all.

This is Death Sister Kai from my works, A Shadowlander's Dream and One's Purpose.

Hell this image took way too long to finish. I started it way back in 2003, when I first completed the manga, One's Purpose. This was supposed to be a poster image or cover, whatever. I got stumped on the flames and then had a major artist block and finally got back to it today.

I discovered that although the piece was nearly finished I had to redo the entire thing again due to many mistakes I'd made back then and things I'd learned recently. Kim helped me a lot by finding photos of campfires and the like so I could get the fire to look better then before and originally I had her wings spread out behind her, but they are so huge they made the image too white, even with the shadows of the feathers, so I opted to go just for a black background because it worked best with the flames.

Originally I'd drawn her tattoo inverting on her arm whenever the flames appear, but created this interesting pattern while playing around and felt it really looked interesting so used it.

All in all I'm happy with the end results of this piece. I just wish I could have got it finished earlier instead of it hovering over my head for years on end.
